3 children and 2 adults on bicycles hit by fleeing driver in Orange County

Two adults and three children are hospitalized, three in critical condition, after a crash in Orange County Sunday night, authorities confirmed to KTLA.

Orange County Fire Authority responders responded to the area of ​​Haster Street and Twintree Lane in Garden Grove around 7:30 p.m. on reports of the collision.


At the scene, emergency services found two adults on bicycles carrying three children in bicycle trailers when they were hit by a motorist who fled the scene.

All five victims were treated by medical personnel before being rushed to nearby trauma centers, with one of the adults and two of the children in critical condition, said Garden Grove police Sgt. Nick Jensen.

Footage obtained by KTLA of the aftermath of the crash showed a large police and fire presence, as well as bystanders. The wreckage of the bicycles could be seen in the street as paramedics lifted one of the bloodied adults into the back of an ambulance.

Few details are known and it is unclear how exactly the accident could have happened. According to the police, the driver of the vehicle fled and was arrested a short time later.

It is not known whether alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the accident.

According to OFCA Battalion Chief Mark Bazkoff, Haster Street was closed in both directions between Lampson and Champman Avenues while police investigated the crash.
