She hasn’t touched alcohol since 2022 and spoke candidly about her journey to sobriety. She also spoke about the massive fire that destroyed her Los Angeles home in March, resulting in millions in losses.
Cara Delevingne Opens Up About Her Early Struggles With Alcohol
Cara Delevingne, the model-turned-actress who burst onto the fashion scene with her debut runway show for Burberry in 2011, recently revealed that she first got drunk at the age of 8. Cara revealed that it was her aunt’s wedding in 2001 and despite being underage, “I got drunk that day,” she recalled. “I was eight, which is a crazy age to get drunk.”
“I always thought drugs and alcohol helped me cope,” she told the outlet. “But they didn’t, they kept me sad and super depressed. I feel like I have my power back and I’m not being controlled by other things.”

In 2022, the model decided to ditch her old habits and embrace a journey to sobriety. However, she revealed that she had no problem hanging out with friends at parties where drinks were served. She now attends all parties, events, and festivals in sober mode. She recalled that she recently attended Glastonbury festival without drinking and felt tired, unable to stay up late. Despite this, she admitted that it was fun and stated that she wanted to maintain her new lifestyle.
The incident that convinced her to quit drinking
According to People, the 31-year-old described an incident in which she saw paparazzi taking photos of her after the 2022 Burning Man festival, saying it was a serious “wake-up call” for her.
“Listen, I signed up for this, this is my job, this is what I do. But without that, would I be sober now? I would never have been Sally Bowles in the West End, I’m super proud of that,” she said, referring to her recent role.

Cara Delevingne recalls the massive fire in her Los Angeles home
On March 15, reports surfaced that the model’s Studio City, California home had gone up in flames. Cara suffered a major financial setback; however, she said she would still be reeling from it if she hadn’t been sober.
“It would still affect me deeply. Of course it affected me, it’s super sad,” she said. “It will never be like that again. But I don’t use it as a tool to keep myself sad.”
