  • Mercedes-AMG has introduced the GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ as its new sports car for the race track.
  • The model features a host of aerodynamic and cooling modifications, including a fixed rear spoiler.
  • The power source is an improved 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, good for 603 hp.

The Mercedes-AMG GT line-up is growing as the company has used the Goodwood Festival of Speed to introduce the new GT 63 Pro 4Matic+, a performance-oriented variant that promises to deliver an “even sportier driving experience”.

The GT 63 Pro 4Matic+, which arrives in the United States next year, features an aggressive front fascia with larger intakes and additional carbon fiber deflectors. Other highlights include an active AirPanel air management system, which helps reduce aerodynamic lift at the front axle by more than 66 lbs (29.9 kg).

The upgrades don’t stop there, as the coupe gains a fixed rear spoiler and additional underbody air deflectors similar to those found on the One hypercar. The sporty look is further enhanced by a standard carbon fiber package that includes a front splitter, rear diffuser and side skirts.

The car rides on 21-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 5 or Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires. Regardless of which rubber you choose, they’re backed by a high-performance braking system that features the “largest standard ceramic brake discs currently available from Mercedes-AMG.” They’re 16.5 inches (419 mm) tall at the front and are gripped by six-piston calipers.

Mercedes hasn’t said much about the interior, but the GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ gets AMG performance seats and a leather and microfiber sports steering wheel. They’re joined by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 11.9-inch infotainment system and an optional rear seat.

Power comes from a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that develops 603 hp (450 kW / 611 PS) and 627 lb-ft (849 Nm) of torque. That’s 26 hp (19 kW / 26 PS) and 37 lb-ft (50 Nm) more than in the GT 63.

The engine is connected to a nine-speed manual transmission, which delivers power to a fully variable all-wheel drive system. This setup allows the coupe to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in around 3.1 seconds before going on to a top speed of 197 mph (317 km/h).

The focus on performance extends beyond the powertrain, with the car fitted with two additional radiators to improve cooling efficiency and track performance. Elsewhere, there’s an active cooling system for the transfer case and top-mounted radiators for the front and rear differentials. Designers have also revised the underbody air intakes and brake cover plates to “optimise airflow to the brakes, increasing durability and preventing excessive brake temperatures.” Rounding out the highlights are active ride control and active rear axle steering.

Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said: “If you not only want to enjoy your AMG GT on the road, but also want to drive fast laps on the racetrack, then the GT 63 Pro is the ideal choice.” He went on to say that the car’s unique “blend of performance and usability makes it a perfect addition to our AMG GT family, which has something to offer every sports car enthusiast.”
